There is no simple answer to the question because the children’s genders are not independent events.
They depend on the parents’ ages and their genes.

Unfortunately there is no readily available research into the
genders of seven or more children to establish the experimental probability for such an outcome.

However, if you assume that they are independent events then, given that the probability
of a girl is approx 0.48, then the probability of the seventh child being a girl is
    0.48.

Des électeurs attendent l’ouverture d’un bureau de vote à Windhoek, le 29 novembre 2024 en Namibie

Namibians returned to vote on Friday in 36 polling stations reopened two days after a chaotic election, set
to test the ruling party’s 34-year grip on power, was marred
    by technical problems.

Tensions are mounting in the historically stable and peaceful southern African nation where Wednesday’s
election was marked by long delays and labelled a “sham” by the opposition.

Some people waited 12 hours in line to vote in presidential and legislative polls, billed as the toughest yet for the South West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO) party, in power since Namibia’s 1990 independence from
    South africa.

Wednesday’s queues were caused by many technical problems, including issues with tablets used to register voters and shortages of
    ballot papers.

In some cases, torches used to show up invisible ink had run out of
batteries and mobile voting teams had left areas with voters still in the queues, it said.

Facing criticism from both voters and parties, the electoral commission extended the
vote for a second time, giving Namibians until
    Saturday evening to vote.

In the capital Windhoek, at the only polling station picked
to reopen, about 60 people showed up on Friday, including Kluivert Muuondjo who arrived at 4:30 am.

The 21-year-old student said he had waited in line until 11:00 pm on Wednesday but left before being able to vote as he had exams the next day.

Des électeurs attendent l’ouverture d’un bureau de vote
à Windhoek, le 29 novembre 2024 en Namibie

“Everyone will have the chance to vote,” he
said. But because Namibians can vote at any given polling station, he was worried “everyone will flock to one place again.”

The disarray led to angry complaints from opposition parties with some
calling for a halt in the electoral process.

Opposition parties were scheduled to meet on Friday and issue a
joint statement, according to Christine Aochamus who represents the
Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) party.

Youth unemployment, enduring inequalities and the emergence of
a generation born after independence are challenging support towards SWAPO which has ruled since 1990.

Its candidate, vice-president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, who could become the
first woman to lead the country if elected, could face an unprecedented second round in the mineral rich
    country.

“To open only one place in Khomas (the region of which the capital is part of) is absurd,” said voter Ensley Engermund, who
also said he couldn’t vote on Wednesday because of long queues despite trying four different polling stations.

“Only 1.5 millions voters are registered and we get this chaos?” asked the 49-year-old security agent.

“It was to get people frustrated.”

Up the great staircase trooped the 2,500 guests, resplendent in tiaras and jewels or white tie and
tails, to be greeted by their hostess, the Marchioness of Londonderry, glamorous in a clinging
black satin Paris dress. Either side of her impressive cleavage gleamed
great swathes of diamonds. Round her neck hung a heavy row of pearls that fell below
her waist. On her head was the largest of the Londonderry
tiaras, so big it was known in the family as ‘the fender’.

Pale rays illuminate the top-lit gallery of Londonderry house

Beside her stood her handsome husband Charles, the seventh Marquess of Londonderry, and the Prime Minister, Lloyd George.
That November night in 1919 was Edith Londonderry’s first Eve of Parliament
reception, a tradition that continued for 20-odd years.

The Marchioness of Londonderry wears ‘the fender’ to greet guests, 1934

Londonderry House, like many of London’s great houses, was built for entertaining.
In the 18th and 19th centuries, most aristocrats and
others who lived on their estates for much of the year had a town house to which they migrated for ‘the
Season’ – those summer months filled with balls and parties, when débutantes
were presented at court and launched into ‘society’
in the hope of making a splendid marriage.

    The ballroom, Devonshire House

These houses were as magnificent as their owners could manage.
Built and decorated by the most talented of the age,
they were sumptuously furnished – walls were hung with silk, damask and wonderful paintings – and often embellished with marble statuary.

The mustard-yellow drawing rooms of Londonderry House were
filled with blue Sèvres vases and gold plate; in the entrance hall stood a
Canova statue of Theseus and the Minotaur (now
in the Victoria and Albert Museum). Suites of rooms, with a
ballroom at one end, could be flung open for entertaining.

Georgiana Cavendish (1757-1806), a lover of
    gambling – and threesomes

Today most of these palatial mansions have been pulled down or turned into blocks of flats.
With their disappearance went their furnishings, objets and paintings.
But what their wonderful rooms looked like can be seen in London: Lost Interiors,
a book compiled from superb black-and-white photographs of these amazing houses, some of which belonged
to aristocratic landowners, others to plutocrats or society figures.

    The drawing room, Grosvenor House

Most of the townhouses – those used for the Season rather than permanent residences – were clustered round Park Lane, Mayfair or on Piccadilly,
like Devonshire House. Here once lived the fifth Duke of Devonshire
and his wife Georgiana (pronounced jaw-janer), whom he had married in 1774 when she was just 17.
She was a celebrated beauty who quickly became a leader of fashion,
famous for her towering hairstyles three feet high, decorated with birds, fruit,
even ships in sail. The couple spent 20 years in a ménage à trois with Lady Elizabeth Foster, Georgiana’s close friend, who was
also the Duke’s mistress. Meanwhile, Georgiana’s gambling led to mounting
debts: on her death in 1806 they were found to be the equivalent of £4 million in today’s money.

The rich, restless second Duke of Westminster, AKA Bendor,
    in his 20s

Another Park Lane mansion was Grosvenor House, belonging to the dukes of Westminster and one of
the largest in London, as befitted the family’s status and
wealth (their huge fortune came from their ownership of Mayfair).
Bendor, the blond and handsome second duke (1879-1953) was known as one of the richest men in England, lavishing
jewels on his mistresses, chief among whom was Coco Chanel.

    The picture gallery, Grosvenor House

A restless soul, Bendor would arrive without warning at any of his houses
(or yachts). All were kept ready: cars fuelled, silver polished, servants in livery.
But after the First World War, during which Grosvenor
House had been requisitioned as a hospital, land prices had risen so high that even for Bendor it had become uneconomic and he sold it.
It was demolished in 1927 and the Grosvenor House Hotel was built on the site.

Designer Oliver Messel, Devonshire House, 1934

At the other end of the scale was 8 Pelham Place, the South Kensington home of Cecil
Beaton from 1940 to 1975. Superbly furnished by this brilliant photographer, it was described loftily by
the diarist Chips Channon (for whom the word ‘snob’
could have been invented – in his diaries he declares, ‘I am only really happy
with royalty’) as ‘a tiny but super-attractive snuffbox of a
house’. Beaton, himself no social slouch, ran him close:
at his parties the women often wore stiletto heels, which
pitted the floor, and later he would point them out, saying, ‘That’s Princess Marina, that’s Julie Andrews, that’s Vivien Leigh…’

French furnishings at 8 Pelham Place, the South Kensington home of Cecil Beaton

Beaton’s near neighbour in Pelham Place, until the mid-60s, was the great stage designer Oliver Messel.
When Messel’s nephew Tony Armstrong-Jones (later Lord Snowdon) became engaged to Princess Margaret, Messel laid on a lunch,
asking the Princess if there was anyone she would particularly like to meet.
She said she had always greatly admired the witty cabaret star Bea Lillie
    and so Messel invited her.

What none of them knew was that Bea Lillie had a drinking habit.
At the end of lunch she slid quietly under the table and
was carried upstairs to sleep it off. Tony and the Princess took their leave and Messel rushed back to his studio,
where he was busy with fittings for Elizabeth Taylor, only to be
    interrupted by a telephone call.

Cecil Beaton at home in Pelham Place, 1947

‘It’s Kensington Police Station here, Mr Messel,’ said the
voice at the other end. ‘We thought you ought
to know that there’s a naked woman on your balcony,
throwing bottles at everyone who passes by.’

Among the last of these fascinating residences to survive was the aforementioned Londonderry House.
Throughout the 20s and 30s it had seen receptions and balls, hosted by the
Londonderrys for their four daughters and two granddaughters.
When eventually it had to go, in July 1962, a farewell party for 300 was given by Alastair, the 9th Marquess.
Live sounds were supplied by a blues band featuring a swaggering young Mick Jagger,
no less – presaging the rise of a whole new
    swinging London generation.

Celine Dion had a hilarious reaction to her hit,
My Heart Will Go On, in a new video this week.

The iconic songstress, 56, who is best known for the 1997
Titanic soundtrack song, was seen attempting
to stream her rendition of Edith Piaf’s Hymne à l’amour – but Siri failed to understand her and instead suggested My Heart Will Go On.

In the clip, Dion says: ‘Hey Siri, play Hymne à l’amour by Céline Dion?’ with
Siri responding: ‘I cannot find that track by Céline Dion but here is My Heart Will Go On. ”

A frustrated Dion said: ‘No! Hello, No, no, no, Hey Siri, can you play Hymne à l’amour by Céline Dion please?’

Again, Siri replied: ‘I cannot find that track by Céline Dion but here is My Heart Will Go On.’

How Celine Dion fought Stiff Person Syndrome every day to be fit to open the Olympics

Dion burst out laughing and said ‘never mind!’ before suggesting she ask the question in a strong French accent.

After this Siri responded: ‘Okay, here is ‘Hymne à l’amour by Céline Dion.’

Dion looked shocked before smiling and giving the thumbs up.

In July Dion made a musical comeback with the track at the 2024 Paris Olympic Opening Ceremony amid her battle with incurable condition, stiff-person syndrome.

28 years after making her Olympic debut in 1996 at Atlanta’s stadium, Celine proved she’s still got it following her emotional act in the French city at the Eiffel Tower.

And after bringing fans to tears, Celine reflected on the iconic moment with a heartfelt message on X.

She wrote: ‘I’m honored to have performed tonight, for the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony, and so full of joy to be back in one of my very favorite cities!

‘Most of all, I’m so happy to be celebrating these amazing athletes, with all their stories of sacrifice and determination, pain and perseverance.

‘All of you have been so focused on your dream, and whether

    for you!

‘You should all be so proud, we know how hard you have worked to be the
best of the best. Stay focused, keep going, my heart

Celine looked incredible in a shimmering silver gown as she performed in front of the Eiffel Tower.

She gave a rendition of Hymne à L’amour, which was originally sung by French music icon Edith
    Piaf.

The song was originally released in 1950

The singer, 38, – a 13-time Grammy Award-winner – has delighted fans with the first single from
her forthcoming album LG7 which is due in February 2025

Convulsing she then awakens and opens her eyes to begin singing.
She then climbs up the car to look at the driver who is dressed as a terrifying character in leather look.

She then jumps off the car before engaging in a savage
fight with another version of herself.

The next scene then cuts to her chained up
in the dark wearing white underwear and covered in scars
as she stands on top of yet another version of herself.

She then wraps her legs around the other Lady Gaga to try
and strangle her as the tension intensifies.

The scary leather clad character from earlier is then seen vomiting black liquid next to another Lady Gaga who is lying on the
    crown.

She is then seen trying to escape the chaos as she gets trapped
between two closing walls that eventually crush her to death.

It comes as Lady Gaga, 38, revealed she was ‘overwhelmed’ by her Little Monsters’ reaction to her latest tune Disease.

The pop superstar said she feels ‘insane joy’ about her fandom’s response
to her electro-pop banger – and teased that there is ‘a
    LOT more to come’.

The disturbing video for Disease sees her fighting with different versions of herself and chained up in a darkened
    room

The video begins with the star seemingly the victim of a car
crash as she lies bloody on the bonnet of
    a car

The scary leather clad character is then seen vomiting black liquid next to another Lady
Gaga who is lying on the crown

    terrifying character in leather look

She is then seen trying to escape the chaos as she gets trapped between two closing walls that eventually crush her to death

She gushed on Instagram alongside a selfie of her smiling with her eyes closed: ‘I honestly am trying to find the right words to say – I
have been so excited to release my new music and to see all the monsters come alive and dance and perform and smile and cry is such an insane joy.

‘I’m so grateful and overwhelmed at your love for Disease.

Keep dancing. There’s a LOT more to come.

‘I haven’t seen our community like this in a very long
time. Thank you for coming on this ride w me all these years and still showing up
for the music also…happy Halloween (sic)’

SHANGHAI, Dec 6 (Reuters) – The yuan was little changed on Friday against the dollar, but is headed for its tenth straight weekly loss
amid concerns that new tariff threatened by President-elect
Donald Trump will heighten strains on the struggling
    Chinese economy.

Analysts expect the dollar to remain firm as Trump’s policies are expected to drive up U.S.
inflation, but they believe Beijing will prevent the
yuan from falling too much. “We anticipate some depreciation pressure in an expected strong dollar environment,” Lynn Song, Greater China chief economist at
    ING, said in a note.

However, “we don’t expect an intentional large-scale depreciation and think the yuan will remain a low-volatility currency vis-à-vis most other Asian currencies.”
The yuan was changing hands at 7.2549 per
dollar around midday, little moved from the previous close.
Although the currency has rebounded from a
one-year low of 7.2996 hit on Tuesday, it is poised to register its longest
    weekly losing streak since 2018.

The dollar index fell to one-week low overnight and “the USD’s consolidation should unwind the upside pressure building” in the yuan, aided by
ongoing attempts by China’s central bank to restrain its decline, said Alvin Tan, strategist at RBC Capital Markets.

Recent data has painted a mixed picture of China’s economic
    recovery, with manufacturing activities improving,
but property sales in many Chinese cities remaining weak.

China’s “economic landscape is unarguably dull, and the absence of excitement is perhaps the most salient feature,” said John Browning, managing director of BANDS Financial.

He doesn’t expect huge stimulus to be announced during next week’s Central Economic Work Conference,
as “Beijing’s largesse will be reserved until after Trump is restored to the White House and the trade war formally begins.”
Top policymakers will gather at the conference to agree on major economic goals for next year.

But the target for 2025 growth, one of the most closely-watched indicators globally for clues of Beijing’s near-term policy intentions,
likely will not be officially announced until an annual parliament
meeting in March. During Trump’s first term as president, the
yuan weakened about 5% against the dollar after the initial round of U.S.

tariffs on Chinese goods in 2018, and fell another 1.5%
a year later when trade tensions escalated. Growth worries and expectations of further monetary easing
by Beijing pushed China’s 10-year treasury yields
below 2% to record lows this week, worsening the yield disadvantage against the U.S., and exerting
downward pressure on the yuan. ING’s Song expects the onshore yuan to move within a band between 7.00-7.40 per dollar, but could fall further to 7.50 “if tariffs come in earlier or more aggressive than our forecasts.” LEVELS

Australian politicians are almost always opting to fly with Qantas on taxpayer-funded trips, despite Virgin offering cheaper tickets.

Federal MPs flew with the national carrier for 80 per cent of work trips last year despite it
not always being the cheapest route, according to travel data provided to the government.

While politicians and their staffers are required to book the
cheapest flight, it also has to be the most efficient, with Qantas offering the most routes between major cities.

MPs are banned from accruing frequent flyer points on taxpayer-funded trips like ordinary Aussies can, but
they can can receive lifetime status credits, which allows access
to airport lounges and flight upgrades.

‘How else can one explain the extraordinary dominance of Qantas in securing bookings by
parliamentarians and their staff?’ Myriam Robin wrote in an opinion piece for the Australian Financial Review.

‘There’s nothing like accruing status credits
    on someone else’s dime.’

Transport Minister Catherine King has since committed to a review of flight bookings by government
officials which will be conducted by the Department of Finance this year, despite there being just two months left
    of 2024.

Politicians’ preference for Qantas may also be put down to
    the airline’s exclusive invite-only ‘Chairman’s Lounge’.

The Flying Kanga-RORT – why you’re footing the bill as airlines wine and dine pollies in VIP club

Daily Mail Australia in August revealed that nearly every single federal politician in the country has accepted free membership of the club.

Qantas and the Albanese government have both denied
the airline enjoys any disproportionate level of influence over the country’s political classes.

A Daily Mail Australia audit of the members’ interest registers – in both the House
of Representatives and the Senate – revealed almost 93 per cent
of the nation’s leaders have been ‘gifted’ membership to the lavish,
    all-inclusive lounge.

The high profile ranks of government giftees include Prime
Minister Anthony Albanese as well as every
member of his 22-person Cabinet, his seven-person Outer Ministry
    and all 12 assistant ministers.

While most politicians declared their Qantas’ privileges as a ‘gift’,
Labor MP Marion Scrymgour listed her membership as her
    ‘Chairman Lounge entitlement’.

Daily Mail Australia in August revealed that nearly every
single federal politician in the country has accepted
free membership of Qantas’ exclusive Chairman’s Lounge.

And it’s not just politicians on the take, with more than 60 MPs – including Marles, Chalmers,
King, Bill Shorten, Zali Steggall and Tanya Plibersek – disclosing their spouses have also been granted unfettered, independent access
to Qantas’ luxurious members only lounge.

Often touted as ‘the most exclusive club in the country’, membership to the Chairman’s Lounge has long been veiled in secrecy.

Even the entrances to each of the country’s six opulent VIP
clubs – in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra and Perth airports – are suitably
    discreet.

Though, once inside, the designer lounges are
immediately more ostentatious, with free à la carte fine dining,
table service, a decadent selection of wines and Champagne and a discreet army of dedicated lounge attendants.

Membership to the club is ‘priceless’ – it cannot be bought for any amount of money nor obtained via any amount of frequent flyers points.

Instead, each member is hand-picked and approved by the company’s chief executive and chairman.

‘Tis the season of hosiery. Paired with a mini
skirt and a sequin blazer (we’re looking at you, Selena Gomez),
or styled with a little black dress and a pair of killer heels (à la Alexa Chung at the Fashion Awards), tights and stockings are a great way to add style – and perhaps
an extra layer of warmth – to your outfits during the autumn and winter months.

From matte to glossy, opaque to sheer, and black to skin-toned shades,
there’s a lot more to consider than just the denier number when it comes
to picking out a pair of classic tights. And then, of course, there is also patterned hosiery (think delicate designs
like a back seam, polka dots or lace detailing) to elevate your winter style.

    ‘Tis the season of hosiery

In 2024, tights should no longer be an obligation but a
fashion choice. Google searches for ‘tights’ are up by 115% since the temperatures first dropped, and at high-street favourite M&S two pairs are sold
every minute. So what styles are we buying?

The top spot is claimed by the retailer’s 60 Denier Body Sensor
Tights (a handy three-pack that sells for just £8 and is available
in a black, navy and brown). The 40 Denier Body Sensor Tights
(£8 for a three-pack) are second favourite, followed by the 30 Denier Body Sensor Tights (£8 for a three-pack).
The fourth most popular pair is the 60 Denier Magicwear Opaque Tights (£14 for a
two-pack), and the top five is rounded out by the 100
Denier Magicwear Opaque Tights (£14 for a two-pack).

These are the number one selling tights at Marks & Spencer

M&S believes the decision between opaque and sheer tights should be based on the formality of our outfit.
‘Opaque black tights will go with basically everything.
Often said to clash with black; blue or brown hues are also an option.’

‘Sheer tights are great for more formal occasions and warmer temperatures,
as they provide a lighter and more breathable option,’ the high street giant added.
‘You can achieve that elegant, barely-there look with a little
    extra coverage.’

Similarly, intricate patterns, logos and glitter are best suited for evening looks, says M&S.

‘For a daytime or office look, stick with polka dots or diamond
patterned tights, or if you’re looking for some added cosiness, try cable-knit tights for some subtle texture.’

Joaquin Phoenix has revealed that he spoke with filmmaker Christopher Nolan about playing Joker which
    ultimately went to Heath Ledger.

The 50-year-old actor – whose latest flick Joker: Folie À Deux could
be streamed now – got candid about potentially playing the supervillain before he actually portrayed him.

Joaquin recently appeared on Rick Rubin’s Tetragrammaton podcast as he
revealed that he spoke to the 54-year-old Oscar-winning filmmaker Nolan about portraying Joker
    over a decade before.

He said: That didn’t… wasn’t going to happen for a number of reasons.

    I wasn’t ready then.

‘That’s one of those things sometimes where you go: “Why am I not doing this project? What is stopping me from doing this? Well it’s not about me, there’s something else. There’s another person that’s going to do something that’s like, I can’t imagine what it would be if we didn’t have Heath Ledger‘s performance in that film.”‘

In 2020, Joaquin earned the Best Lead Actor Oscar for Todd Phillips directed Joker which was 11 years after Ledger posthumously earned Best Supporting Actor for The Dark Knight in 2009.

Joaquin continued: ‘I don’t know whether Christopher Nolan was coming to me saying,
    “You are definitely the person.”

‘I can’t remember the context of how we met. But I know that we met, and my feeling was, “I shouldn’t do this.” But maybe he also was like, “You’re not the guy.” I

The Dark Knight actor died aged 28 after taking a fatal cocktail of drugs,

Meanwhile Joker: Folie À Deux can now be streamed, just weeks after its theatrical release.

The movie, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga,
is now available to rent from home starting October 29, in an effort to recoup some of Warner Bros.

The musical, which bombed at the box office, is ‘poised to lose at least $150 million to

Terrifier 3 dethrones Joker: Folie À Deux as box office champ

The movie studio spent about $200 million to produce the film
and about $100 million on marketing and distribution,
    according to the report.

It would need to gross about $450 million at the box office
to break even — when factoring in the cut taken by theaters — though Warner Bros.
sources claim the number is $375 million.

A Warner Bros. spokesperson responded to the report, saying ‘Any estimates suggested by anonymous “insiders” or “rival executives” are grossly
wrong and continues a trend where rumor is reported as
    fact.’

‘The film continues to play in theatrical release, included with this week’s opening in China, and will
continue to earn revenue throughout its home viewing and ancillary run.’

So far, the musical about Batman’s nemesis has grossed $51.5 million domestically and $165 million globally after two weeks of release.

In comparison, the first Joker grossed $96.2 million domestically and
$248.4 million globally after three days of release.

The hotly-anticipated sequel to the 2019 billion dollar
Oscar-winning film was considered a surefire hit for

Joker: Folie À Deux has garnered the lowest CinemaScore in comic book movie history as the film bombed at the box office on opening night.

However, Joker: Folie À Deux has been given a D rating on CinemaScore — the
lowest score for a comic book movie.

Madame Web — which notably also flopped in theaters earlier this year and
also received terrible reviews — holds a higher score with
    a C+.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie currently holds an audience score of 31% and a critic score of 32%.

The sequel has been roundly criticized for being a musical and ‘ignoring’ the DC fanbase – with
an agent familiar with director Todd Phillips’ process telling Variety he
‘wanted nothing to do with DC’ during the making of the film,
with DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran notably absent from the film’s LA

A source said: ‘If the first movie was about some down-on-his-luck, mentally ill guy
in a downtrodden city, it makes maybe $150 [million] worldwide.

Not a billion. People showed up because that guy was Joker.’

In an apparent snub by Phillips, the opening sequence of the film does not include a DC Studios
    logo.

A Warner spokesman added that a DC logo appears at the end of the Joker sequel,
while Phillips declined to comment to the publication.

Several frictions are said to have developed between Phillips,
DC and Warner- with claims that Michael DeLuca, Chairperson of Warner Bros.
Entertainment, and CEO Pamela Abdy seemed ‘unwilling’ to say no to Phillips due
    to his huge past successes.

It is claimed Phillips would ‘only’ speak with DeLuca and Abdy rather than Gunn and
Safran – who took control of DC two months before production began on Joker
    2 in December 2022.

Gunn and Safran did attend the first director’s cut screening for the studio but Phillips fueled rift speculation when he told a reporter: ‘With all due respect to them, this is kind
    of a Warner Bros. movie.’

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav also met with Phillips shortly after WarnerMedia and Discovery
merged in April 2022 and was ‘open to filming in Los Angeles
if the director would make the sequel at a lower price point.’

The studio wanted to film in London which
would have cost around 20 per cent less.

A source directly involved with the film recently shared: ‘The one
thing about genre stuff: If you don’t listen and pay attention to what the
fan expectations are, you’re going to fail’; director Todd
Phillips seen with Gaga and Phoenix at the LA premiere September 30

However, Phillips insisted on filming in LA with
    the budget remaining static.

A Warner spokesman told the publication the studio ‘supported
the decision to film in Los Angeles’.

A source directly involved with the film said: ‘No one could get through to Todd.
And the one thing about genre stuff: If you don’t listen and pay attention to what the fan expectations are,
    you’re going to fail.

Insiders also claim studio bosses did not want to premiere
the film at the Venice Film Festival, but Phillips pushed back
    – with a Warner spokesman saying the studio ‘fully supported the decision to bring the film to
    Venice.

Along with Gaga and Phoenix, other stars that had appeared
in the sequel include Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Zazie Beatz and Steve
    Coogan.

LONDON, June 30 (Reuters) – Cigarette maker Philip Morris International thinks its iQOS smokeless tobacco product
can make Britain a country of non-smokers in coming years, an executive
    said on Friday.

Since iQOS was launched in the UK in December, Philip
Morris has found that about 70 percent of users are able to give
up cigarettes, Peter Nixon, its UK and Ireland managing director,
told BBC Radio. That compares with only about 15-20 percent of people who use e-cigarettes, he said.

“It’s unprecedented,” Nixon told the Today show. “We’re very encouraged that products like iqos iluma one 2024 are the absolute game changer.”

Whereas e-cigarettes use nicotine-laced liquid, IQOS heats tobacco sticks, called Heets, to a high enough temperature to create a vapour but not smoke.

Philip Morris, which has Marlboro cigarettes among its global brands, has applied to U.S. health regulators to have iQOS recognised as having “modified risk” compared with cigarettes.

British American Tobacco and Japan Tobacco are also selling tobacco-based “vaping” devices, but so far Philip Morris is in the lead.

The company sells about 7 billion Heets a year, which is tiny compared with the 820 billion conventional cigarettes it sells. But Nixon told the BBC that the company hopes to produce 100 billion Heets next year, a huge jump from the less than 400 million it made in 2015.

“We’re absolutely serious. One day we want to stop selling cigarettes,” Nixon said on the programme. “We’re moving very fast.”

There are still 7.5 million smokers in Britain, Nixon said, and Philip Morris has hired “freelancers” to help to bring that number down. These freelancers act like quitting coaches and can earn 50 pounds ($64.95) from Philip Morris for every person they convert from cigarettes to iQOS.

“With these types of programmess we can get that down to almost zero in coming years,” Nixon said. ($1 = 0.7699 pounds) (Reporting by Martinne Geller; Editing by David Goodman)

“Joker: Folie à Deux” is the No. 1 movie at the box office,
but it might not be destined for a happy ending.

In a turn of events that only Arthur Fleck would find funny,
the follow-up to Todd Phillips´ 2019 origin story about the Batman villain opened in theaters nationwide this weekend to a
muted $40 million, according to studio estimates Sunday, less than half that of its
predecessor. The collapse was swift and has many in the industry
wondering: How did the highly anticipated sequel to an Oscar-winning, billion-dollar film with the same creative team go wrong?

Just three weeks ago, tracking services pegged
the movie for a $70 million debut, which would still have been down a fair amount from “Joker´s” record-breaking $96.2 million launch in Oct.
2019. Reviews were mixed out of the Venice Film Festival, where it premiered in competition like the first movie and even got
    a 12-minute standing ovation.

But the homecoming glow was short-lived, and the fragile foundation would crumble in the coming weeks with its Rotten Tomatoes score dropping from 63% at Venice
to 33% by its first weekend in theaters. Perhaps even more surprising were the audience reviews: Ticket buyers polled
on opening night gave the film a deadly D
CinemaScore. Exit polls from PostTrak weren´t any better.
It got a meager half star out of five possible.

“That´s a double whammy that´s very difficult to recover from,” said Paul Dergarabedian, the senior media analyst for Comscore.
“The biggest issue of all is the reported budget. A $40 or $50 million opening for a less expensive movie would be a solid debut.”

“Joker: Folie à Deux” cost at least twice as much as the first
film to produce, though reported figures vary at
exactly how pricey it was to make. Phillips told Variety that it was less than the reported $200 million; Others have it
pegged at $190 million. Warner Bros. released the film in 4,102 locations in North America.
About 12.5% of its domestic total came from 415 IMAX screens.

This image released by Warner Bros. Pictures shows Joaquin Phoenix,
foreground center, and Brendan Gleeson, background center, in a scene from “Joker: Folie à Deux.” (Niko Tavernise/Warner Bros.
    Pictures via AP)

    Internationally, it’s earned $81.1 million from 25,
788 screens, bringing its total global earnings estimate to $121.1 million. In the next two weeks, “Joker 2″ will also open in Japan and China.

Second place went to Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s”The Wild Robot,”
which added $18.7 million in its second weekend, bringing its domestic total to nearly $64 million. Globally,
it’s made over $100 million. Warner Bros.’ “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”
took third place in weekend five, Paramount’s “Transformers One” landed in fourth and Universal and Blumhouse’s “Speak No Evil” rounded out the
    top five.

The other big new release of the weekend, Lionsgate’s
“White Bird,” flopped with just $1.5 million from just over 1,000 locations, despite an A+ CinemaScore.

Overall, the weekend is up from the same frame last year, but “Joker’s” start is an unwelcome twist for theater owners hoping to narrow the
    box office deficit.

Phillips and star Joaquin Phoenix have said they aspired to make something as “audacious” as the first film.
The sequel added Lady Gaga into the fold, as a Joker superfan, and delved further into the
mind of Arthur Fleck, imprisoned at Arkham and awaiting trial for the murders he committed in the first.
It´s also a musical, with elaborately imagined song and dance numbers to old standards.
Gaga even released a companion album called “‘Harlequin,” alongside the film.

In his review for The Associated Press, Jake Coyle wrote that “Phillips has followed his very antihero take on the Joker with a very anti-sequel. It combines prison drama, courthouse thriller and musical, and yet turns out remarkably inert given how combustible the original was.”

The sequel has already been the subject of many think pieces,
some who posit that the sequel was deliberately alienating fans of the first movie.
In cruder terms, it´s been called a “middle finger.” But fans often ignore the advice of critics,
especially when it comes to opening their wallets to
see revered comic book characters on the big screen.

“They took a swing for the fences,” Dergarabedian said.
“But except for a couple of outliers, audiences in 2024 seem to want to know what they´re getting when they´re going to the theater. They want the tried and true, the familiar.”

It has some high-profile defenders too: Francis Ford Coppola, who last week got his own D+ CinemaScore for his pricey, ambitious and divisive film “Megalopolis,” entered the Joker chat with an Instagram post.

“@ToddPhillips films always amaze me and I enjoy them thoroughly,” Coppola wrote.

“Ever since the wonderful `The Hangover´ he´s always one step ahead of the audience never doing what they expect.”

“Megalopolis,” meanwhile, dropped a terminal 74% in its second weekend with just
over $1 million, bringing its total just shy of $6.5 million against a $120 million budget.

Deadline editor Anthony D´Alessandro thinks the problem started with
the idea to make the Joker sequel a musical. “No fan of the original movie wanted to see a musical sequel,” he wrote on Saturday.

The first film was also divisive and the subject of much discourse, then about
whether it might send the wrong message to the wrong type of
person. And yet people still flocked to see what the fuss
was about. “Joker” went on to pick up 11 Oscar nominations, including best picture and best director, and three wins.
It also made over $1 billion and was the highest-grossing R-rated film
of all time, until this summer when Marvel’s “Deadpool & Wolverine” took the crown.

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S.
and Canadian theaters, according to Comscore. Final domestic figures will be released Monday.

    1. “Joker: Folie à Deux,” $40 million.

    2. “The Wild Robot,” $18.7 million.

    3. “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” $10.3 million.

    4. “Transformers One,” $5.4 million.

    5. “Speak No Evil,” $2.8 million.

    6. “Sam and Colby: The Legends of Paranormal,” $1.8 million.

    7. “White Bird,” $1.5 million.

    8. “Deadpool & Wolverine,” $1.5 million.

    9. “The Substance,” $1.3 million.

    10. “Megalopolis,” $1.1 million.

ANGELA HARTNETT’S BEEF & VEAL MEATBALLS
Meatballs are super-quick to make for a weeknight
supper and there are many ways to serve them
(see tip). The veal in these gives a lightness to the result, but you can swap it out for all beef,
or flavourful pork mince. This is a good way to use up
any day-old bread hanging around. The recipe is easy to double up on and freeze so you have a meal
    for an emergency.

    SERVES 4

4 tbsp olive oil, plus extra for the onion

    1 onion, finely chopped

    2 garlic cloves, chopped

    400g tin chopped tomatoes

200g white bread (day old, if possible)

whole milk (enough to soak the bread)

    500g beef mince

    250g English veal mince

2 tbsp finely grated parmesan, plus extra to serve

    4 anchovies, finely chopped

    2 tbsp chopped flat-leaf parsley

salt and freshly ground black pepper

350g dried spaghetti, to serve (optional; see tip)

1 First make a tomato sauce. In a saucepan, heat a dash of olive oil over a medium heat, then add half
the chopped onion and half the garlic, then sauté for
10 minutes to soften. Add the tomatoes and when the liquid starts to bubble, reduce to a simmer and leave to cook,
stirring occasionally (about 20 minutes, to create a thick sauce),
    while you make the meatballs.

2 In a bowl, soak the bread in the milk until soft. In another bowl, mix the beef,
veal, parmesan, anchovies, half the parsley and the rest of
the onions and garlic. Then add the soaked bread,
lightly squeezing any excess milk from it first.

Mix well and season with salt and pepper. Mould the mixture into 12-14 meatballs.

3 Put the 4 tablespoons of olive oil in a large frying
pan over a medium heat. When hot, add the meatballs, turning (for
about 5 minutes) to ensure they colour all over.
If necessary, cook in batches so they are not all squashed together, setting each batch
aside on a plate while you cook the remainder.

4 To finish, remove the meatballs from the pan and set aside.
Pour the tomato sauce into the frying pan over
a medium heat. Put the meatballs back into the pan for a further 4-5 minutes
to cook through. Sprinkle with the remaining parsley before serving.

TIP You can serve the meatballs as they come, or on top of spaghetti.
If you would prefer the latter, cook the pasta
according to the packet instructions until al dente.
Drain it in a colander, reserving a cupful of the cooking water to loosen the meatball sauce if necessary, and then transfer it back to the pan and toss it with
a little olive oil and butter. Put the spaghetti on a serving plate and top
with the meatballs and sauce. Finish with a drizzle of olive oil and
    a sprinkle of parmesan.

Bright and early, my old friend, the beauty and wellness entrepreneur Liz
Earle, is standing at my door clutching a Kilner
jar with what looks like a small sponge floating in murky water.

‘I made kombucha for you,’ she says with an enthusiasm I don’t entirely share.

(The sponge, it turns out, is the Scoby, or ‘symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast’, which is what’s
used to ferment sweetened tea to make kombucha. I don’t realise
at the time, but this hideous thing takes weeks to develop and is in fact a
    very generous gift.)

The truth is, I’d drink (almost) anything if it gave me Liz’s zip.
At 61, a mother of five and a new grandmother, she honestly looks 20
years younger. Fans of her YouTube channel and her 170,000 Instagram followers will know how bright and smooth her skin is, but in person she
    is fizzing with energy, too.

Liz and I have been friends for 25 years – over which time she has somehow seemed to gain in vitality as I, nine years her junior, have…
    well, deflated.

Beauty and wellness entrepreneur Liz Earle, right, and Beatrice Aidin met back in the 1990s when they were both beauty journalists

So here’s my plan. I am going to Live Like Liz for a full eight weeks,
morning to night, to see just how much I, too,
    can turn back the clock.

I am going to eat, drink and exercise like Liz, ‘ground myself’ in a flower bed in my pyjamas like her, and even tape up my mouth à la Liz.
From my gut to my hormones, my brain to the very cells of my skin, I will
follow the ‘bio-hacks’ set out in her new book
A Better Second Half: Dial Back Your Age To Live A Longer,
Healthier, Happier Life, which swiftly became a bestseller on its release this year.

Liz says it can’t fail, so long as I commit to it.

‘Who’s to say we can’t or shouldn’t change the way we age?’ she asks.

‘I was stronger, fitter and more capable in my 50s than I was in my 40s, so why can’t
I be even more so in my 60s, 70s and beyond?’

Perhaps more significantly, after the ‘car crash of emotional
wreckage’ caused by the breakdown of her second marriage, and the divorce she went through in 2020, she now says: ‘I’m happier at 61
    than I was at 40.’

Career-wise, it shows. When we met back in the 1990s we were both beauty journalists.
At launches for new products, I’d merrily down the free Krug while Liz sipped sparkling water.
‘Ah Bea, you were the yin to my yang,’ she says.

Now, her wellness empire has mushroomed… and I’m suffering
major work anxiety, a not-unrelated financial crisis and severe sciatica.

Frankly, I look and feel knackered. My skin is dull and
I have dark circles under my eyes. Physical pain interferes with my sleep, and I’ve been turning rather too readily
to the sauvignon blanc to help me nod off.

Food is not a priority: I’m either not interested or craving sugar, which means I’m
a good 10lb heavier than I should be.

So, can living like my rather fabulous friend make me feel as young as she looks?
More to the point – can I really stick to it, kombucha and all?

‘Come on Bea, get off your backside!’ Liz demands…

Liz (left) puts Beatrice through her paces in the gym.

Beatrice needs extra help with exercise because of her sciatica

Week one: I face up to my middle-age spread
Liz’s top-line diet philosophy is high-protein, low carb, meaning she’s a fan of lots
of foods I love but didn’t think I should eat: butter, unprocessed meat, avocados,
good quality cheese, taramasalata and thick Greek yoghurt.

High protein helps us ‘shift to a leaner, more toned shape, and lose that middle-aged spread,’ she says.

Timing matters. Liz eats two meals a day – brunch around 11am and dinner at 7pm.
The order matters too: clear your plate of chicken before rice,
because eating protein before carbs keeps blood sugar levels
    stable.

In recent years she has increased her coffee intake (before 2pm) because studies show four to five cups is ‘strongly associated with living longer’ thanks to the
bioactives in coffee beans such as chlorogenic acid.

She eats wheatgerm, soya beans and nuts to up her intake of spermidine
    – a dietary molecule that interacts with our DNA and mimics an anti-ageing process called autophagy,
which de-ages us at a cellular level.

Alcohol is basically a no-no. Liz has the
‘occasional glass’ of wine or tequila, but
never more than two and never alone.

I chuck out the ready meals and plonk, roll up my sleeves and start cooking from
scratch. I grill venison, roast a chicken and
    make soups with the leftovers.

Eating at specific times works for me – I’m never very hungry first thing – and
enjoying the protein part of each meal first means I’m fuller and find it easy to cut back on my carb portions.

Gut health is a big focus, which means more fermented foods.
Much to my surprise, I love the kombucha and soon start to brew my
own using Liz’s Scoby. But homemade kimchi – fermented veg
    – is a harder sell. When a lunch guest asks me why I’m forcing
myself to eat something I dislike so much, I reply solemnly: ‘Liz told me to.’

Week two: I discover I can do only 3 press-ups
I really need help with exercise because sciatica means my normal routine has gone to pot.

Thankfully, Liz reckons just ten minutes a day of exercises such as squats, lunges and press-ups is more valuable in the long term than a high-intensity
gym session once a week or a long park run.

She introduces me to her personal trainer, Michael Garry,
who delivers the (bombshell, but welcome) news that running any distance over 5k can ‘start
to have negative effects’ on our immune system and bone strength.
If you’re a runner, make it harder by speeding up your time, not increasing your distance.

At Michael’s insistence, I consult a physio about my sciatica, and then he devises a daily
regime for me. I try press-ups and make it to three.
Mortifying. Perseverance is clearly key. As are weights, especially in your 50s.
‘The more muscle you have, the more your bones are protected from osteoporosis, especially
    during midlife,’ says Michael.

For cardio, says Beatrice, I keep swimming twice a week.
But instead of plodding up and down the pool, I start to compete with myself, speeding up the laps

For my slack and flabby upper arms, he advises shoulder presses and
hammer curls, with 3kg weights in both hands. I try tricep dips off a chair, and quickly find I can increase my reps – until by week four I’m doing two sets
    of 15.

I work out three times a week at home. At first the routine takes 40 minutes but the more I do, the faster I do it, until the whole thing – stretching,
    press-ups, weights – takes just 20 minutes.

For cardio, I keep swimming twice a week. But instead of plodding up and down the pool, I start to
compete with myself, speeding up the laps.

Week three: I slow the hormonal roller coaster
I’m menopausal and already on HRT, but I know I could improve how I feel, which is sluggish and foggy.

Liz introduces me to something called the ‘estrobolome’ – the specific
collection of bacteria in the gut that influences how our body uses
oestrogen. Put simply, some microbes improve the efficiency with which oestrogen reaches tissues
around the body, meaning we use our dwindling supplies more effectively.

The best way to support your estrobolome is by eating fibre from veg, seeds and nuts,
plus some of the low-sugar fruits such as apples, berries and plums.
Back to the supermarket I go.

To boost the happy hormone serotonin, my saintly
mentor insists I finish my morning shower with a minimum 60-second blast of icy cold water, resulting –
she claims – in a ‘post-shock high’ and ‘genuine glow’.

Hmmm. I find it hard to relinquish the comfort
of a hot shower and feel not happy but mutinous as I step
    out of the bathroom shivering.

Week four: I stand in the flower bed
Living Like Liz means getting outside first thing in the morning and standing barefoot on the grass.
‘Grounding’ apparently enables electrons from the surface of the Earth to transmit
deep into the body, ‘where they have an anti-inflammatory
    effect’.

Liz tells me she does this in the tranquil grounds
of her glorious pile in the West Country. I do it in a flower bed in my shared patio,
still in my pyjamas, and feel, well, very self-conscious.
Later I graduate to the park, and – look away now – tread in dog mess, which does not improve my emotional wellbeing.

She also encourages us to keep a Five Minute Gratitude Journal twice
a day. ‘Gratitude is… a superpower that improves longevity and supports the immune system,’ she
    says.

I can’t help but think my better-off mate has rather a lot more to
smile about than me but, following instructions, I write down three
things I am grateful for every morning, and every
night a short list of ‘good things’ that happened that day,
plus another (longer) list of ‘things that
    are concerning me’.

My scepticism around gratitude slowly lifts as I find it
does make me realise what’s important and what’s not.
It helps me see that things are a lot brighter than I
thought. Packing in a rush for a weekend away, I can’t
find my journal and am surprised by how bereft I feel
    without it.

Week five: I start to sleep well
I’m a night owl – I stay up too late watching TV and end up
hitting my snooze button past 8.30am… and occasionally
    edging towards 10am.

Liz reckons anyone can improve their sleep if they follow her routine,
which means setting an evening alarm for 9pm – to remind yourself to start ‘winding down for bed’.

Emails, social media and TV are switched off, replaced by a printed book or a
podcast. She takes 120g of magnesium glycinate in a milky drink half an hour before bed (and stops eating two
    hours before).

Living Like Liz means getting outside first thing in the morning

Liz wears a bamboo fibre nightie or pyjamas to keep warm
because she sleeps with an open window, which she covers with blackout blinds and curtains,
and sprinkles her pillow with a few drops of neat lavender essential oil.

I’m an e-book reader, so already failing at this routine.
Still, I leave my phone charging in the kitchen and buy a regular alarm clock.
The lavender oil makes me sneeze, so I spray my pillows with C.
    Atherley Geranium Spray instead.

Oh, and I tape my lips up – Liz shows me how
when she delivers the kombucha. Forcing yourself to breathe through your nose is said to promote more restful
    sleep.

All of this is time-consuming and takes practise, but I find the
ritual soothing. Five weeks in, I’m getting to sleep earlier than I
have for years – at 10.30pm after 20 minutes drop-off time -and
    waking at 7.30am. How virtuous!

Week six: I crash off the wagon
I’m doing my best, but then I go for lunch with a friend who chirpily suggests a glass of
wine, which turns into a bottle. And then a second. Later, with a daytime hangover, I head to M&S and find
reduced dauphinoise potatoes, which become dinner.

Liz has got me on a blood sugar tracker called Lingo (£289 for two
months – you jab a biosensor the size and shape of a plastic bottle top
into your upper arm, and then link it to an app on your phone), which
shows a massive post-potato spike and then a huge slump,
which makes me tired and irritable. Who knew that such deliciousness had such a high glycaemic load?

I call Liz to ‘fess up. ‘I have the odd day when I
lie in, eat too much cake and drink too much tequila,’ she
says. ‘But that’s fine because you then know what to do to put it right.
It’s not about being perfect.’ Phew!

Week seven: I tackle my financial mess
Re-reading my journal really helps here. By documenting what I
was so worried about day by day, my perspective on it changes.

Here, in black and white, is a record of how I felt at the start of this
    project and how I’ve evolved.

I’ve come unstuck – in a good way. I’m not going to pretend it’s been easy
because change is uncomfortable, but I realise there’s simply nothing to be gained from the worry spiral.

If freelance life is tough, and my income erratic, I’m
going to do something about it. Buoyed with the confidence that comes with action, I apply
for part-time admin jobs. As personal trainer Michael observes as we work out on Zoom, I wouldn’t have done this before.
He’s right. Finally I’ve started to take control.

Week eight: And the winner is…
So how have eight weeks of Living Like Liz changed me?

Physically, I’m in much better shape. I’ve lost 7
lb and taken an extraordinary 5 in off my waist and 11 in off my body as a whole.

Those three pathetic press-ups have become a whopping 40 per workout, and the measly 3kg weights
are now 6kg, meaning I have proper bicep definition. The sleeveless tops will be coming out again this party season.

Our essential guide to beating back pain: What’s causing
    your aches

My skin is clearer, eyes brighter and face more defined because I’ve
reduced the carb-inducing bloat. I’m sleeping better and feeling infinitely less anxious.

Most remarkably – and this is really life-changing – my sciatica is almost
gone and I can come off strong painkillers. I know sciatica can disappear
of its own accord, but the timing is surely no coincidence.
All those exercises have strengthened the muscles around my spine and buttocks and I’m convinced it’s done the trick.

I meet Liz for lunch, nervous about whether she’ll see a difference.

‘Oh wow,’ she says, taking a good look at her pupil.

‘Those arms! You definitely look younger.’

We chat for a while and she adds: ‘You also seem more content and optimistic.
You have an inner glow and a halo of positivity.’

Well, yes, she would say that, wouldn’t she? (Probably.
Though Liz is known for her candour, so it’s not a given.) ‘I wasn’t
sure you were going to prioritise yourself enough and commit,
‘ she admits ‘You weren’t an easy nut to crack so I’m thrilled.’

I’m delighted with my gold star. And I’m grateful to her, which is one of the
key lessons I’ve learned. Gratitude makes everything feel better.

That – along with the kombucha, ice-cold showers (which I have learned to love) and the
odd tequila – are the habits I’ll hold on to. But not
(shudder!) the kimchi or flower beds.

As Liz says, everyone deserves to have a better second half – and if I can do
    it, anyone can.

Joaquin Phoenix’s wife Rooney Mara blushed as he fixed her dress on the red

For the star-studded affair located at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, Rooney, 39,
joined her dashing husband Joaquin, 49.

The couple – who ‘secretly wed’ recently –
looked happier than ever as they posed for sweet snaps on the carpet.

Rooney looked out of this world as she slipped into a floral sheer dress and flashed her
    underwear underneath.

The glitzy gala had no shortage of A-list star power as they were also joined by the likes of supermodel Kendall Jenner as well as fan-favorite actress
and newly minted billionaire Selena Gomez.

Joaquin Phoenix’s, 49, wife Rooney Mara, 39, blushed as he fixed her dress on the
red carpet at Academy Museum Gala in LA on Saturday

Rooney and Joaquin shared a sweet red carpet moment

Joaquin just confirmed Rooney (born Patricia) was his ‘wife’ during an episode of Sam Fragaso’s podcast Talk Easy, last
    month.

Mara welcomed their second child in June, and she dressed her post-baby body
    gorgeous sheer gown.

Phoenix (born Bottom) and the two-time Oscar nominee are
also parents of four-year-old son River Mara Phoenix named
after Joaquin’s big brother who died, age 23, from
an overdose of morphine and cocaine on Halloween 1993.

‘I love it. I love it so much. I think it’s the best thing in the world,’ Rooney
gushed of motherhood on the LaunchLeft Podcast last year.

‘It doesn’t feel like a two-actor house because I didn’t work for the first
three and a half years we were together.

Basically since we’ve been together, I only worked one or two times and one
was really small and short. It feels like a creative household,
we’re constantly talking about creative things.’

The Phoenixes originally met in 2012 playing lovers Theodore
Twombly and Catherine Klausen on the LA set of Spike Jonze’s
AI rom-com Her, but they didn’t start dating until after
her 2016 split from her Discovery director Charlie
    McDowell.

The acting couple went on to co-star in Garth Davis’ 2018 Biblical drama
Mary Magdalene and Gus Van Sant’s 2018 comedy Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get
    Far on Foot.

Joaquin Phoenix has revealed that he spoke with
filmmaker Christopher Nolan about playing Joker which ultimately went to Heath Ledger.

The 50-year-old actor – whose latest flick Joker: Folie À Deux could be streamed now – got candid
about potentially playing the supervillain before he actually portrayed him.

Joaquin recently appeared on Rick Rubin’s Tetragrammaton podcast as he revealed that he spoke
to the 54-year-old Oscar-winning filmmaker Nolan about portraying Joker over a decade
    before.

Joker: Folie À Deux heading to streaming after box
    office flop

In 2020, Joaquin earned the Best Lead Actor Oscar for Todd Phillips directed Joker which was 11
years after Ledger posthumously earned Best Supporting Actor
for The Dark Knight in 2009.

Joaquin continued: ‘I don’t know whether Christopher Nolan was coming to me saying, “You are definitely the person.”

‘I can’t remember the context of how we met. But I know that we met, and my feeling was, “I shouldn’t do this.” But maybe he also was like, “You’re not the guy.” I couldn’t say.’

Heath died in a New York City apartment on January 22,
2008, after accidentally overdosing following months of physical and mental exhaustion.

The Dark Knight actor died aged 28 after taking a fatal cocktail of drugs,
leaving behind his daughter, who was two years old at the time.

Meanwhile Joker: Folie À Deux can now be streamed, just weeks after its theatrical release.

The movie, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, is now available to rent from home starting October 29, in an effort to
recoup some of Warner Bros. investment into the film, as per Variety.

The musical, which bombed at the box office, is ‘poised to lose at
least $150 million to $200 million in its theatrical run’ according to the
    publication.

    as box office champ

The movie studio spent about $200 million to produce the film
and about $100 million on marketing and distribution, according to the
    report.

It would need to gross about $450 million at the box office to break
even — when factoring in the cut taken by theaters — though Warner Bros.
sources claim the number is $375 million.

A Warner Bros. spokesperson responded to the report, saying ‘Any estimates
suggested by anonymous “insiders” or “rival executives” are grossly wrong and continues
a trend where rumor is reported as fact.’

‘The film continues to play in theatrical release, included
with this week’s opening in China, and will continue to earn revenue throughout its home viewing and ancillary
    run.’

So far, the musical about Batman’s nemesis has grossed $51.5 million domestically and $165 million globally after two weeks of release.

In comparison, the first Joker grossed $96.2 million domestically and $248.4 million globally after three days of release.

The hotly-anticipated sequel to the 2019 billion dollar Oscar-winning film
was considered a surefire hit for Warner Bros Pictures,
yet ended up being slammed by critics and failed to ignite at
    the box office.

Joker: Folie À Deux has garnered the lowest
CinemaScore in comic book movie history as the film bombed
at the box office on opening night.

The psychological musical thriller — which has been criticized as ‘bleak’ and ‘disappointing’ — officially released in theaters on Friday, October 4.

Phoenix reprised his role as the Joker in the sequel, which
had earned him an Oscar for his portrayal in the 2019 film, while Gaga took on the role
of Harleen Lee Quinzel (Harley Quinn).

However, Joker: Folie À Deux has been given a D rating on CinemaScore
    — the lowest score for a comic book movie.

Madame Web — which notably also flopped in theaters earlier this year and also received terrible
    reviews — holds a higher score with a C+.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie currently holds an audience score of 31%
and a critic score of 32%.

The sequel has been roundly criticized for being a musical and ‘ignoring’ the DC fanbase – with an agent familiar with
director Todd Phillips’ process telling Variety he ‘wanted nothing to do with DC’ during the making of the film, with DC bosses James Gunn and Peter
Safran notably absent from the film’s LA premiere afterparty last month.

A source said: ‘If the first movie was about some down-on-his-luck, mentally ill guy in a downtrodden city,
it makes maybe $150 [million] worldwide.
Not a billion. People showed up because that guy was Joker.’

In an apparent snub by Phillips, the opening sequence of the film does
not include a DC Studios logo.

A Warner spokesman added that a DC logo appears at the end of the Joker
sequel, while Phillips declined to comment to the publication.

Several frictions are said to have developed between Phillips,
DC and Warner- with claims that Michael DeLuca, Chairperson of Warner Bros.
Entertainment, and CEO Pamela Abdy seemed ‘unwilling’ to say
no to Phillips due to his huge past successes.

It is claimed Phillips would ‘only’ speak with DeLuca
and Abdy rather than Gunn and Safran – who took control
of DC two months before production began on Joker 2 in December 2022.

Gunn and Safran did attend the first director’s cut screening for the studio
but Phillips fueled rift speculation when he told a reporter: ‘With all
due respect to them, this is kind of a Warner Bros.
    movie.’

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav also met with Phillips
shortly after WarnerMedia and Discovery merged
in April 2022 and was ‘open to filming in Los Angeles if the
director would make the sequel at a lower price point.’

The studio wanted to film in London which would have cost around
    20 per cent less.

A source directly involved with the film recently shared:
‘The one thing about genre stuff: If you don’t
    listen and pay attention to what the fan expectations are, you’re going to fail’;
director Todd Phillips seen with Gaga and Phoenix at the LA premiere September 30

However, Phillips insisted on filming in LA with the budget remaining
    static.

A Warner spokesman told the publication the studio ‘supported the decision to
    film in Los Angeles’.

A source directly involved with the film said: ‘No
one could get through to Todd. And the one thing about genre
stuff: If you don’t listen and pay attention to
what the fan expectations are, you’re going to fail.

Insiders also claim studio bosses did not want to premiere the
film at the Venice Film Festival, but Phillips pushed
back – with a Warner spokesman saying the studio ‘fully supported the decision to bring the film to
    Venice.

Along with Gaga and Phoenix, other stars that
had appeared in the sequel include Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Zazie Beatz and
    Steve Coogan.

Joker: Folie À Deux is branded ‘bleak’ and the ‘most disappointing follow-up’ by critics

Weeks ago, the movie had been projected to bring in around $70 million – but the number has since drastically dropped.

Joker (2019) notably opened with $96.2 million when the film first released in theaters – and
eventually landed a little over $1 billion in the global box office.

The first movie – which was also directed by Todd Phillips
    – had a budget of between $55 and $70 million. However, the budget increased for Folie À Deux to around $200 million.

The 2019 movie garnered praise and positive reviews from both critics and audiences – and
won the Golden Lion during the 76th Venice International Film Festival.

Joaquin received an Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal of the
Joker (Arthur Fleck) – and the film garnered an additional Academy
    Award for Best Original Score.

The sequel also screened during the Venice
International Film Festival last month in September,
where it earned a 12-minute standing ovation, per Deadline.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie currently holds an audience score of
    31% and a critic score of 32%

However, audiences have since taken to X after the movie released in theaters on Friday – and shared their opinions
on the sequel, which features musical sequences.

One fan penned, ‘Joaquin Phoenix don’t deserve this.
what happened to the script?’ while another added, ‘is it that bad,’ followed by a crying face emoji.

‘Ironically I feel that a musical, if done well, could have been a good choice.
It’d show how much of an unreliable narrator Fleck is,’ one typed.

‘But with some original songs, that keep everything vague, not
just covers. Also when I heard of the ending I snorted fr.’

A social media user wrote, ‘Stop making sequels as musicals if the original wasn’t a musical.’

‘Maybe he [Phillips] only had an hour long movie, and decided to randomly add musical scenes to fill the runtime,’ one penned.

‘Joker downfall really needs to be studied,’ another shared, along with a monkey staring out a window.

One fan said, ‘the movie sucks. i had to walk out of the cinema,’ while another penned, ‘After
    years of disagreement….*Joker 2 releases*
    Critics [shaking hands] Audience.’

The sequel is projected to only rake in less that $50
million in the domestic box office during the entirety of
opening weekend, per The Hollywood Reporter

However, audiences have since taken to X after the movie released in theaters on Friday –
and shared their opinions over the sequel, which was also a musical

‘Ironically I feel that a musical, if done well, could have
been a good choice. It’d show how much of an unreliable
    narrator Fleck is,’ one typed

‘Joker downfall really needs to be studied,’ another shared,
along with a monkey staring out a window

‘That’s way below what we expected,’ one wrote in regards to the
current Rotten Tomatoes scores. ‘People are saying this is the worst sequel ever.’

A fan explained, ‘yea this film was bad. it was pretentious and
dull. has the aesthetic of an arthouse film without the substance.’

‘It also insults the audience’s intelligence. the songs
were also underwhelming too. they shouldn’t have let
    this escape to theaters.’

One shared, ‘The audience that loved the first movie is not the same audience running to see
musicals. This was a gigantic mistake from step 1.’

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Phillips discussed whether he would
be interested in making a third Joker film or a movie centered around Gaga’s character.

‘It’s not really where this movie is headed for me. I feel like my time in the DC Universe
    was these two films.’

Ahead of the movie’s release, Lady Gaga also dropped an accompanying album titled Harlequin on September
    27.

Joker: Folie À Deux has been branded the ‘most disappointing follow-up to the Oscar-winning movie’ by critics, as they cast doubt on Lady Gaga’s ‘thin’ role in the film following its release on Friday.

‘That’s way below what we expected,’ one wrote in regards to the current Rotten Tomatoes scores.
‘People are saying this is the worst sequel ever’

A fan explained, ‘yea this film was bad.
it was pretentious and dull. has the aesthetic of an arthouse film without the substance’

The ‘bleak’ sequel, has also received a tepid reception from fans, with some
claiming Lady Gaga’s career could be at risk.

While the same director Todd Phillips was back
in the hot seat, critics have said the sequel is just a ‘repeat’ of the first
hit but with an added musical twist.

Most critics have said Todd failed to use Gaga correctly in the
movie and claimed she was only bought in for the musical aspect of it.

While the majority of critics say Joker: Folie À Deux
didn’t live up to expectations, others have dubbed the movie
    ‘bold’ and ‘brilliant.’

Daily Mail’s Brian Viner commended the move as ‘bold’ and
‘brilliant’ but said it lacked any thrill.

The Independent’s Geoffrey Macnab said: ‘Today Joker is best remembered as
one of the most subversive and original films of the last decade, while its hugely anticipated sequel
is just as bleak and formally daring as its predecessor’.

Meanwhile, the Irish Times’ Donald Clarke gave the movie just two stars but credited Phillips’
work for making a sequel following the first movie’s $1billion success.

Financial Times critic Danny Leigh said although Gaga worked
hard to bump the ratings up in the sequel, Phillips appeared to have no idea
    what to do with her.

Giving a three star rating, The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw claimed
the movie proves ‘claustrophobic’ and ‘repetitive.’

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Phillips discussed whether he
would be interested in making a third Joker film or a movie centered around
Gaga’s character; Phillips, Gaga and Phoenix seen in September in L.A.

    Joker: Folie À Deux has been branded the ‘most disappointing follow-up to the Oscar-winning movie’ by critics, as they cast doubt on Lady Gaga’s ‘thin’ role in the film following its release on Friday;
    seen in September in London

The Times’ Kevin Maher wrote: ‘The director Todd Phillips said there
would be no follow-up to the original, but he changed his
mind and the result is a derivative musical’

‘This might be the most disappointing follow-up to an Oscar-winning performance since Anthony Hopkins reworked his silky and
terrifying Dr Lecter from for the campy, kitschy.’

Along with Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix, other stars that had appeared in the sequel include
Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Zazie Beatz and
    Steve Coogan.

Joker: Folie à Deux has faced additional backlash from fans as they
have claimed that Gaga is running the risk of losing her acting career.

    PLANT OUT SPRING BEDDING

Wallflowers get their name from their habit of growing near  stone walls.

Erysimum cheiri are shortlived evergreen perennials or biennials often grown as spring bedding.

You can buy them as plug plants now and get them in the
ground to flower early next year. This is a fun activity to do with children or grandchildren. All you need is a well-weeded
flower bed in a sunny spot, gardening gloves,
    and a trowel.

Dig a hole so that the base of the plant is level with the soil.
Pop in your young wallflower, firm the earth around
it and water well. Repeat, leaving 20cm between plants.

They can grow to up to 50cm high depending on the variety and come in a range of bright colours.
    E. ‘Fireglow’ is a dazzling red and orange variety;
    E. ‘Bowles Mauve’ is light purple, while E. ‘Sunset Primrose’ is a fragrant lemon yellow.

Erysimum cheiri (pictured) are shortlived evergreen perennials or
biennials often grown as spring bedding

This is also the time to plant plugs of Sweet Williams
(Dianthus barbatus). These are also biennials or short-lived
perennials which grow to between 40 to 60cm with clusters of carnation-like flowers
from February to June in colours from white to deep pink, often in a combination of two tones.
They prefer well-drained, alkaline to neutral soil in full sun.

Actea simplex or baneberry is a herbaceous

In autumn, it produces spikes of tiny fragrant white
flowers which are purple in bud. These are a good source of late nectar for pollinating insects and are followed by poisonous berries.

Actea simplex ‘Brunette’ is a cultivar that has been given the
Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit.

Forget tiny chihuahuas peeping out of handbags à la Paris Hilton, or Taylor Swift with her adorably grumpy looking Scottish
Fold cats who have become celebrities in their own right.

When it comes to capturing my heart with a cuddly creature, it’s the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger, 75, who’s
reinvented himself as the internet’s favourite granddad with his wholesome life with a menagerie of animals, who has won me over.

The jewel in the crown of his ever-growing brood
of beasts is Schnelly the pig, who joined the family in April
last year, making the star the latest in a long list of celebrities to realise the joys of a porky pal – along
with Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus and the Beckhams.

I’m completely smitten with the cuteness of pet pigs. I lose hours scrolling
through Instagram, looking at pictures of furry little piglets
    with pretty pink snouts.

There are 255,000 Insta posts with the hashtag #petpig and I’ve probably looked at all of them.

Then there’s the 286,000 posts hashtagged #micropig and I’d hazard a guess that
I’ve seen all of those too.

So I’m rather excited to discover that there’s a pig farm less than an hour from central London, where I
can find out what it’s really like to have a porcine pet.

While celebrities might get away with turning up to photoshoots, TV appearances and fancy restaurants with all manner of furry creatures, will I
get the same reception if I take a pig for a stroll down the high
    street?

Samantha Rea from London strolling down the high street in Old Amersham with Astrid, a
    16 month old micro pig

The pair stopped off at The Griffin, a private
members club, bistro and bakery, for some refreshments after a trot down the high street

Samantha Rea spent time at the Kew Little Pig Farm in Amersham, Buckinghamshire to learn how to muck out and care for
    pigs

Learning how to feed hay to the pigs did make Samantha question whether it’s easier to stick with a dog or cat as
    a pet

I’m hoping the Kew Little Pigs Farm will help me find out.
It specialises in miniature pigs, which pig lovers can buy or ‘adopt’ to visit on the farm.

Then there are the day trips. The Piggy Pet & Play package
lets visitors ‘pet, brush, groom, watch and play with the pigs.’ The Pig Enthusiast package can include putting sun cream on the pigs,
and the Comprehensive Guide to Pig Keeping teaches you everything you need to know before buying your own micro pig.

    Clearly I must go there!

And so I head to Amersham, in Buckinghamshire, where Kew Little Pigs Farm is based.

When I arrive, owner Olivia Mikhail looks slightly concerned at the
sight of my Converse trainers and cropped jeans, a combination that will surely result
    in splattered shins.

However, Olivia has no idea just how prepared I actually am, because I have packed not only knee high wellies for my time on the farm,
but also my designer heels, for my glimpse into what life’s like
    as a pig-owning celebrity.

Paris Hilton started the chihuahuas in handbags craze, and is also the proud owner of Princess

George Clooney, Paris Hilton, Miley Cyrus, Jonathan Ross, Charlotte Church and even the Beckhams have
all kept pigs as pets over the past decade or so, while more recently Ariane Grande and Pete Davidson adopted

But first things first. Before I spend an afternoon taking a petite pig for a stroll, I sit down with Olivia in the Kew Little Pigs cafe, to complete the theory side of the Comprehensive Guide to
    Pig Keeping.

It turns out there is quite a lot of admin involved in owning a pig,
alongside a rule book thicker than Harry Potter.

Who knew that you needed a license to walk a pig? Who would imagine that you
can’t feed pigs your kitchen leftovers? It used to be common practice, but has been banned
because of the risk of diseases such as African swine flu and foot and mouth disease
that can be spread by consuming contaminated pork products.

Who can fathom having to fill out a form to drive your pig from one place to another – again for disease control reasons?

After all the admin and mucking out, Samantha was
delighted to move on to the fun part – cuddles with Astrid

Samantha found that mucking out the pig pen was actually
a lot more civilised than picking up poo on a dog walk

Samantha came armed with wellies for her day at the farm, but made sure to keep it glamorous

After swapping her flimsy trainers for wellies, Samantha felt equipped to tackle
    her day on the farm

And who would guess that pigs have to have their own house?
I mean, it’s only got to be about the size of shed,
but it’s actually a law to uphold welfare standards.

I suppose none of this is an issue for celebrities who have people to do paperwork for them – not to mention acres of space –
but to me it seems insurmountable.

Olivia senses that my dreams are crushed and attempts to reassure me: ‘It’s really
not that much paperwork. Look, filling in this form would take two minutes.’

Moving on from the theory, we head outside for the practical part of the course.
Here, in large pens, are lots of little pigs which are super cute, so this makes me happy.

I am given a rake to claw the pig poo into a dustpan. Both the rake and the
dustpan have long handles and I like the distance this creates.
It is certainly more civilised than picking up poo in a flimsy
plastic bag on a dog walk.

Clearing away pig excrement with proper equipment which allows you to maintain a civilised, and sanitary, distance makes me
wonder if – despite the paperwork – pigs might just trump dogs.

Samantha was worried she might attract stares walking
Astrid through town, but nobody batted an eyelid

Samantha treated herself to a hot chocolate while
    Astrid enjoyed some pig treats

Samantha swapped her wellington boots for high heels to glam up to take her pet pig down to the
    town centre for lunch

Taking a pig out for a walk is trickier than it looks, and a lot of treats are required to keep things on track

Next, Olivia asks if I would like to feed the pigs. Yes of course!
She hands me some hay that’s stuffed inside what’s basically a large fishnet stocking, the
size of Santa’s sack. The hay sticks out of all the holes, and
it’s my job to hang up the sack in the pig pen, so the pigs can eat
    from it.

This sounds easy. Only it’s not. ‘NOT THERE!
NO! IT’S GOT TO BE HIGHER! TIE IT ROUND THE POST!
    NO! NOT LIKE THAT! NO!’

I feel like a failing contestant on The Crystal Maze, only this
is worse because I’m now surrounded by hungry pigs and I cannot see
    a panic button.

I swear there was something on Netflix where murdered bodies were dumped in a pig pen, to be eaten by the
pigs. Or maybe the bodies were eaten alive. This definitely happens all the time, according to TV, and
now I don’t even know which is worse, the prospect of being felled by pigs eating through
my ankles, or the pressure to hang the hay correctly.

It is like my challenge on The Crystal Maze has been especially
devised to amuse the inhabitants of hell.

I find myself grateful to make it out of the pig pen alive.

Surely I get to do celebrity stuff now?

Celebrities’ pigs are as stylish as their owners, so I’ve
sourced designer outfits for my trottered chums. I’d initially looked
at diamond chokers by Dior, because what pig wouldn’t want a
diamond collar? But apparently pigs are happier in harnesses, which fit around
the body, not just the neck.

I hunt for a harness that an A-lister might pick for their pig, and I am
delighted to discover a pink leopard print harness with a matching lead.

It is by Urban Pup, a pet fashion brand whose website I’ve now spent more time on than all the other websites in my search history.

    There’s the zebra print, the cheetah print, the pink argyle;
the florals, the tartans, and the hearts. There’s the range inspired by
Legally Blonde and the pet carrier that resembles a pink Chanel handbag.

    Then there are the socks…

I turn up at the farm with more outfits for the pigs than I have for
myself. I guess this is what it’s like being a pig parent:
    #SELFLESS

I am introduced to Astrid, a 16 month old micro
piglet who’ll fulfill my dreams of walking a pig. I show Olivia
all the outfits I’ve brought from Urban Pup and she picks
out a pink tartan harness with a matching lead.

I want to dress up all the pigs but Olivia says no. That’s OK.
There is probably some law about only one pig at a time looking this stunning.

When Astrid and I are dressed, we head into Old Amersham.
It’s a pretty market town in the Chilterns with cobbled streets and quaint white buildings with beams.

So how will locals feel about a pig on a lead?

I imagine I may be sternly spoken to by a member of
the Women’s Institute. However, it turns out that
Old Amersham is perfectly au fait with celebrity antics, given that Poirot,
Midsomer Murders and Four Weddings and a Funeral have all been filmed there.

On my pig keeping course I have learnt that pigs never poo where they
eat, sleep or socialise, because they’re very clean, so from day one,
without any training, a pig will go outside to poo.

I am surprised then, as I arrive in Old Amersham, to find that Astrid has done her business in her carry box.
I try not to think about this, as I hold her lead.

Our first stop is the Amersham Museum. I’m not a massive fan of walking around looking at things,
but I hear the museum homes a Tudor dining table that visitors are welcome to sit at.
It is about lunchtime, so I’m hopeful I’ll be served
a Tudor banquet. I quite fancy a tankard of wine and a bit of wild boar.

Unfortunately, Astrid does not, and so, despite being welcomed by museum director Briony, we leave pretty much as
    soon as we arrive.

We go for a stroll instead, but I have to scatter pig
food pellets to coax Astrid along the pavement. I guess celebrities get their assistants to walk
ahead, trailing treats to entice the pet pigs in the right direction.

Hard at work: Writer Samantha Rea tried the Comprehensive
Guide to Pig Keeping, which  teaches you everything you need to know before buying your
    own micro pig

However, doing it without an assistant, I find myself thinking that it’s definitely
    easier to walk a dog.

Celebrity life is about lounging in luxurious surroundings, so
Astrid and I head to The Griffin, a private members club, bistro and bakery, that’s pretty much the Soho House of Amersham.

In the beamed building that dates back to the 17th century, there are
gorgeous leather sofas and cosy cushions. However, I have learnt on my pig keeping course that pigs are happiest alfresco, so Astrid and I take a
seat on the astro-turf terrace, beneath a pretty parasol that
wouldn’t be out of place in a Cotswolds shoot for Tatler.

It is here, as we relax like A-listers, that Astrid and I are at
our happiest. As I sip a coffee and eye-up a chocolate
brownie (I’m being a celebrity, remember, I don’t actually eat these things), Astrid
puts her trotters up on the seat beside me and enjoys a few pig food pellets.

Clearly this is our natural environment, so it’s probably just a matter of time before Astrid is snapped up by a celebrity to live life first class.

But for now, Astrid must mooch back to the
mud, and I must head home to wash pig poo off my wellies.

I am chuffed to bits to have spent an afternoon with Astrid, but as I think it all over, on the
train back to Marylebone, I know that I’ll never keep a pig as a pet.

Aside from all the legal red tape, my lack of space
in London, and the trickiness of trying to take a pig for a walk, there’s always the fear that the micro pig might turn out
to be not so tiny after all.

I’ve seen headlines about 4 ounce “teacup” pigs growing bigger than a bear, and frankly I
find it terrifying. So I’ll leave the pet pigs to the celebrities.

Abbie Chatfield has revealed the sexual act she would
never engage in with her partner, Adam Hyde.

The FBoy Island star, 29, recently opened up about the launch of her ‘kink kit’ sex toys and admitted that when it comes to bedroom fun, it’s strictly a two-person affair.

While she does fantasise about having a ménage à trois, Abbie admitted that it’s something she could never actually go through with.

‘I have a fantasy about, like, seeing my partner f*** someone else,’ she told News Corp.

‘But I think I know in my heart that I don’t actually want to see it.
I just want to talk about it like, that’s something that I find hot.

‘But in reality, would I want to see that? Maybe, probably not.’

Abbie Chatfield has revealed the sex act she refuses to do with partner Adam Hyde

While she does fantasise about having a ménage à trois, Abbie admitted
that it’s something she could never actually go through with.
    Pictured with boyfriend Adam Hyde

‘Like, whenever we get to a point where we’re like, “let’s have a threesome!”, I’m
like, “I don’t actually know if I’m gonna want to see that”,’
    she continued.

Elsewhere in the discussion, Abbie revealed that her Peking
Duk frontman partner was the perfect ‘product tester’ for the kit.

‘He had feedback about the length of the flogger,’
she said, referring to the kit’s double-ended paddle.

‘It was a little bit too short after using that on me.’

Abbie’s racy admissions come after she recently
urged women to withhold sex from their Donald Trump-supporting partners.

In a lengthy Instagram post, in the wake of Donald
Trump’s victory over Kamala Harris in the US presidential election, the reality star told women they should refuse to date or have sex which anyone who
    supports his victory.

Alongside a series of posts from her story, she wrote:
‘IF THEY WANT TO TAKE AWAY REPRODUCTIVE FREEDOMS THEN
DO NOT LET THEM ENTER YOUR BODY.’

‘I’m done with the idea that men who support Trump (or Andrew Tate) are just ‘lost’ and we
should have empathy for them. They are gleefully posting threats of
    violence.’

‘I have a fantasy about, like, seeing my partner
f*** someone else,’ she told News Corp

    celebrate her ‘kink kit’ launch

‘They are happy that women’s rights are going
to be stripped. They are laughing at our tears. They already have a
SLOGAN in ‘your body my choice’.’

Abbie then told women to not let men with these views ‘near you’ because
    they are ‘dangerous’.

‘Ask them about their views! They are dangerous
and they don’t deserve your presence, emotional or domestic labour.
If your partner was in support of Trump OR EVEN APATHETIC, STOP
DOING ANYTHING FOR THEM THAT PATRIARCHY EXPECTS OF YOU!!
They are NOT entitled to your body or time.

‘If they see you as a human they wouldn’t need this explained to them.
    DUMP. THEM.’

She also claimed Trump’s presidency ‘will bring more
violence towards women as men do not care about
    us’.

‘So stop giving them the perks of a relationship with you.
It isn’t your job. Be with a man who can take care of himself,
who won’t expect sex and who actually sees you as a human being.’

Abbie’s comments echo sentiments from the 4B movement which sprung up in South Korea in the
    mid 2010’s.

The radical feminist movement, calls for proponents to not date, get married, have sex, or have children with men.

Following the US presidential election some American women declared solidarity with the movement is a form of protest against Donald Trump, and his role in the
    overturning of Roe v. Wade.

There is something reassuringly robust about The Punch Bowl Inn.
Not just in the old-fashioned bar, where the Wainwright
Gold is well kept and a huge leather sofa sits before a blazing wood burner; or in the dining
room, solid and comfortable, with its old beams, well-trodden wooden floors and tables unadorned with
cloths; it’s in the menu, too, mainly British with a Gallic burr,
that makes full use of the magnificent local Lake District larder.

Stornoway black pudding with crispy egg and bubble and squeak:
‘pure Cumbrian comfort by way of Lewis’, is Tom’s verdict

We’re here with Peter Gott, that great Cumbrian hero, and the man behind Sillfield Farm, who has invited me up to cook at the Westmorland County Show; also chef Phil Vickery, who certainty knows his
alliums; and the force of nature that is Lorraine Stanton, something of a legend around these parts.

But first dinner, and a sublime twice-baked Mrs Kirkham’s cheese soufflé, the
texture as light as a sigh, the flavour profoundly, lasciviously rich.
Mrs Kirkham’s, now made by her son Graham, is one of the world’s great cheeses,
and this is a soufflé of quiet majesty. A mushroom soup is equally splendid, managing
to be both light and gutsy, while Stornoway black pudding with bubble and squeak and a deep-fried egg is
pure Cumbrian comfort by way of Lewis.

There’s a fundamental generosity here, matched by assured technical
precision. Duck à l’orange sees a plump breast cooked
rare, the skin crisp, the sauce just the right side of bitter.
It comes with a fat potato fondant and cabbage
spiked with shards of smoked bacon. I eat rump of lamb,
four vast just-pink slices, drenched in the stickiest, most gloriously intense
of gravies; by its side, a tiny shepherd’s pie, one bite of pure ovine brilliance.

Puddings are every bit as fine: a lemon tart, beautifully sharp, with damson sorbet (this part of the
Lake District is famed for its damsons); along
with a banana soufflé, this time the classic version but ethereal, served with vanilla ice cream and a pot of sticky-toffee sauce
to pour deep into its molten centre. This is good
old-fashioned food, immaculately done, in the sort of pub designed for lingering.

It’s getting late now, and we’ve an early start. But first, another bottle of wine.
Dinners like this are too rare to be rushed.

    About £45 per head. The Punch Bowl Inn, Crosthwaite, Cumbria;

Joaquin Phoenix’s wife Rooney Mara blushed as he fixed her dress on the red carpet at Academy Museum Gala in LA on Saturday.

For the star-studded affair located at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, Rooney, 39,
joined her dashing husband Joaquin, 49.

The couple – who ‘secretly wed’ recently – looked happier than ever as they posed for
    sweet snaps on the carpet.

Rooney looked out of this world as she slipped into a floral
sheer dress and flashed her underwear underneath.

The glitzy gala had no shortage of A-list star power as they were also joined by the likes of supermodel Kendall Jenner as well as fan-favorite
actress and newly minted billionaire Selena Gomez.

Joaquin Phoenix’s, 49, wife Rooney Mara, 39, blushed as he fixed her dress on the red carpet at Academy Museum Gala in LA
    on Saturday

Rooney and Joaquin shared a sweet red carpet moment

Joaquin just confirmed Rooney (born Patricia) was his ‘wife’ during
an episode of Sam Fragaso’s podcast Talk Easy, last month.

Mara welcomed their second child in June, and she dressed her post-baby body gorgeous sheer gown.

Phoenix (born Bottom) and the two-time Oscar nominee are also parents of four-year-old son River Mara Phoenix named after Joaquin’s big brother who died, age 23, from an overdose of morphine and cocaine on Halloween 1993.

‘I love it. I love it so much. I think it’s the best thing in the
world,’ Rooney gushed of motherhood on the LaunchLeft Podcast last year.

    ‘It doesn’t feel like a two-actor house because I didn’t
work for the first three and a half years we were together.

Basically since we’ve been together, I only worked one or two times and one was really small and short.
It feels like a creative household, we’re constantly talking about
    creative things.’

The Phoenixes originally met in 2012 playing lovers Theodore
Twombly and Catherine Klausen on the LA set of Spike Jonze’s AI rom-com Her, but they didn’t start
dating until after her 2016 split from her Discovery director Charlie McDowell.

The acting couple went on to co-star in Garth Davis’ 2018 Biblical drama Mary Magdalene
and Gus Van Sant’s 2018 comedy Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot.

Joaquin just confirmed Rooney (born Patricia) was his ‘wife’ during an episode of Sam Fragaso’s podcast Talk Easy

Rooney and Joaquin also co-narrated Chris Delforce’s
2018 vegan documentary Dominion as well as co-producing Alex
Lockwood’s 2022 pandemic documentary The End of Medicine and Jonah Hill’s
    2022 therapy documentary Stutz.

Mara told Deadline in February that she and Phoenix (born Bottom) are still ‘all committed to’
co-starring in Pawel Pawlikowski’s upcoming film The Island but ‘it doesn’t look
like that will happen this year.’

But first, audiences can catch the New York native as waitress Julia
in Alonso Ruizpalacios’ Times Square kitchen drama La Cocina, which hits limited US theaters
October 25 and UK theaters December 26.

Meanwhile, the Grammy winner scored a $20M paycheck to reprise
his Oscar-winning role as psychopathic comedian Arthur Fleck/Joker
in Todd Phillips’ $190M-budget sequel Joker: Folie à Deux,
which hits US/UK theaters this Friday.

    Deadline projected the 138-minute demented
jukebox musical to earn $140M worldwide opening weekend including $55M-$60M at 4K US theaters.

It also features Lady Gaga, Zazie Beetz, Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, and Harry Lawtey.

Thus far, Joker: Folie à Deux has a 60% critic approval rating
(out of 58 reviews) on Rotten Tomatoes.

The 1981-set first film Joker made history in 2019 as
the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, amassing $1.079B at
the global box office despite mixed reviews.

Russell Crowe has argued that the rise of independent politicians are better representing
the views of everyday Australians, unlike the two-party-dominated system in the United States.

The Oscar-winning actor made the claim in response to
podcast host Joe Rogan  complaining that Americans were ‘completely
    trapped in the two-party system’.

‘We have the same sort of situation, but we have a very interesting thing that’s happening in Australia
at the moment, which is the rise of independents,’ Crowe
    countered.

‘The main parties have to deal with the fact those independents have to bring a non-party-line series of points
    to the argument.

‘And it’s working well. It’s working for us.
In that it’s making both of the main parties re-examine who they are and what they stand for.

Rogan mused ‘we could use that here, for sure’, highlighting how
US politics is completely dominated by the Democrat and Republican parties.

There are other parties, including the Green, Libertarian, and Reform parties, but these receive
    vanishingly few votes in comparison.

Independent candidates can also stand and have been known to perform
    well on occasion.

The Oscar-winning actor (pictured ) made the observation in response to podcast host Joe
Rogan who complained that Americans were ‘completely trapped in the two-party
    system’

Joe Rogan (pictured) is one of the most powerful media figures
    in the world

Civil rights opponent George Wallace ran a third-party campaign in the 1968 US election which saw him garner 10 million votes and
take five southern states, while another disaffected Democrat, Strom Thurmond, in 1948 carried four southern states on a similarly racist platform but with only a
    million votes.

The nephew of a president, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.,
was poised to get on the ballot in dozens
of states as an independent candidate before he pulled out and backed Republican Donald Trump.

He has now been appointed Health secretary in Trump’s incoming cabinet.

Trump himself had previously belonged to the Reform Party.

The former New York property developer had even considered
running for president in the 2000 election under the banner of that movement – formed by former third-party presidential candidate Ross Perot,
who won 19 per cent of the popular vote in 1992 but gained no electoral college votes.

Perot was the most popular minority party candidate since former Republican president Teddy Roosevelt in 1912 ran as the Bull Moose
Party candidate – carrying six states including California and coming second ahead of Republican William Taft.

Australia has seen a rise in recent years of nominally independent
politicians who have taken votes away from the two traditional parties of Labor and
    the Liberal-National coalition

This situation is helped by a strong Green party who now have
12 senators and four members in the House of Representatives.

Zali Steggall (pictured) became the first Teal independent to achieve
huge success when she ousted former prime minister Tony Abbott in his seat in Sydney’s northern beaches at the 2019 election

Meanwhile, independent candidates who run on strong climate platforms but are fiscally conservative have been labelled ‘teal’ candidates.

This is because they have combined their ‘green’ views on climate with the traditional ‘blue’ approach of the centre-right Liberal
    Party.

Zali Steggall became the first Teal independent to achieve
huge success when she ousted former prime minister Tony Abbott in his seat in Sydney’s northern beaches at
    the 2019 election.

In similar fashion, Monique Ryan won the traditionally Liberal
seat from former treasurer Josh Frydenberg at the 2022 election.

She was one of seven Teals elected, swelling the lower house crossbench to
15, with this tally including the four Greens, three conservative
    independents and progressive Andrew Wilkie.

Crowe’s three-hour conversation with Rogan, which was first aired in August, has
recently resurfaced in Teal social media adverts.

They are being pushed by Melbourne philanthropist Simon Holmes à Court, who founded Climate 200,
which has given campaign funding to some Teal candidates.

Not all independents elected in 2022 were Teals, however.

Maverick independent Bob Katter has just celebrated 50 years in parliament (pictured:
being congratulated by prime minister Anthony Albanese)

Dai Lee, a former state Liberal candidate,
defeated former Labor frontbencher and former NSW Labor premier Kristina Keneally in the south-west
    Sydney seat of Fowler.

And, of course, maverick Bob Katter who has just
celebrated 50 years in parliament, spending 20 years as a Queensland state MP before serving the past three decades in federal
parliament as the MP for the regional far north Queensland electorate of Kennedy.

Among his many mad-hat policies over the years include a bid to teach school
kids how to fire rifles and a desire to build a missile shield across northern Australia.

The House of Representatives crossbench grew to 16 in late 2022
when Andrew Gee quit the Nationals in protest at its opposition to
    the Indigenous Voice to Parliament.

The Greens and independents make up 11 per cent of the 151-member
lower house – the highest proportion of non major party MPs since Federation in 1901.

There is something reassuringly robust about The Punch Bowl Inn.
Not just in the old-fashioned bar, where the Wainwright Gold is well kept and
a huge leather sofa sits before a blazing wood burner; or in the dining
room, solid and comfortable, with its old beams, well-trodden wooden floors and tables unadorned with
cloths; it’s in the menu, too, mainly British with a Gallic burr, that makes full use of the magnificent
    local Lake District larder.

Stornoway black pudding with crispy egg and bubble and squeak: ‘pure Cumbrian comfort by way
    of Lewis’, is Tom’s verdict

We’re here with Peter Gott, that great Cumbrian hero, and the
man behind Sillfield Farm, who has invited me up
to cook at the Westmorland County Show; also chef Phil
Vickery, who certainty knows his alliums; and the force of nature
that is Lorraine Stanton, something of a legend
around these parts. But first dinner, and a sublime twice-baked Mrs Kirkham’s cheese
soufflé, the texture as light as a sigh, the flavour profoundly,
lasciviously rich. Mrs Kirkham’s, now made by her son Graham, is one
of the world’s great cheeses, and this is a soufflé
of quiet majesty. A mushroom soup is equally
splendid, managing to be both light and gutsy, while Stornoway black pudding with bubble
and squeak and a deep-fried egg is pure Cumbrian comfort by way of Lewis.

There’s a fundamental generosity here, matched
by assured technical precision. Duck à l’orange sees a plump breast cooked rare, the skin crisp, the sauce just the
right side of bitter. It comes with a fat potato fondant and cabbage spiked with shards of
    smoked bacon. I eat rump of lamb, four vast just-pink slices, drenched in the stickiest, most gloriously intense of gravies;
by its side, a tiny shepherd’s pie, one bite of pure ovine brilliance.

Puddings are every bit as fine: a lemon tart, beautifully
sharp, with damson sorbet (this part of the Lake District is famed for its damsons); along with a banana soufflé, this time the classic
version but ethereal, served with vanilla ice cream and a pot of sticky-toffee
sauce to pour deep into its molten centre. This is good old-fashioned food, immaculately done,
in the sort of pub designed for lingering. It’s getting late now, and we’ve
an early start. But first, another bottle of wine. Dinners like
this are too rare to be rushed.

About £45 per head. The Punch Bowl Inn, Crosthwaite, Cumbria; the-punchbowl.co.uk

Τhe Joker’s real identity wаs revealed іn Folie à Deuх’s ‘brutal ending’- and it’ѕ not who yoᥙ think

Identity confusion iss thе theme tһroughout

Lady Gaga plays Harleen ‘Lee’ Quinzel, ɑ fellow inmate on her way,

The pair hit іt off at a mussic therapy class, аnd arre soon mutually smitten, Ьut Lee
makes it ϲlear tһɑt she lovges the dangerously chaismatic Joker, ‘clown prince ⲟf crime’,
    not the gloomily introspective Arthur.

Eventually, аfter Arthur’ѕ һigh-profile TV appearance ԝith
a smug interviewer playesd Ƅy Stsve Coogan, іt is time foг the trial,
ѡith aⅼl of Gotham gripped ƅy the subject

Ηis lawyer (Catherine Keener) strives tⲟ show that Joke іs accused оf five murders, rther than Arthur. Lee јust as urgently wants him tо identivy ass һis

In the final scenes, Arthur renounces һis Joker alter-ego аnd is foսnd guilty of fіrst-degree murder.

As һе іѕ being sentenced a car bomb detonates

Ӏn the Asylum а yong patient begins to tell Arthur a joke,
